Track Timing: Please have all your edits made before submitting your session or multi-tracks.
Fades and Noise Elimination: Delete count-ins and noise at the front and end of your clips. Also, make sure that the beginning and end of each audio clip in your session have a fade-in and fade-out to reduce the chance of hearing clicks in your audio. After you have cleaned up your audio please consolidate each track to 1 audio file that starts 1 bar before your song. Please make sure all track files are the same length.
Comping: Perform any necessary vocal or instrument comps
Tuning: Please commit to any tuning that you have in your session unless we have decided on a different approach
Session Prep
Make A Session File Copy: Make a duplicate session file and rename it to something that’s identifiable to the mix. — for example, “SongTitile_BPM_For_Mix” If you are sending a zip Multi-Track file keep the same naming convention for your folder.
Relabel The Tracks: Re-label all tracks to make them as easily identifiable as possible. For instance, instead of keeping a track name like, “hat43sc223.dup” change it to something easy on the eyes, like, “Hat” or “HH” If you plan on sending zipped files instead of a session when labeling please start each label with: D (for Drums) P (for Percussion) B (for Bass) G (for Guitar) K (for Keys/Synths/Strings etc) V (for Lead Vocals/Dubs) BV (for Harmonies/Background Vocals) and FX (for any Effects/Booms/Risers etc) This makes importing your files much quicker and is very much appreciated 😃
Here is an example: D_Overhead_L, D_Overhead_R, D_KikIn, D_KikOut, D_SnT, D_SnB, etc
Arrange Your Tracks: Now’s the time to reorder your tracks so all common elements are together. All drums and percussion should be together, as well as vocals, guitars, keyboards, horns, and so forth.
Delete Empty Tracks: It’s not uncommon during tracking and overdubs to create a number of empty tracks in anticipation of further recording, but end up never using them. Delete these tracks as they just make things confusing.
Deactivate and Delete Unused Tracks: If there are tracks that you’re certain won’t be used, please delete them from the Mix session you are building.
